Content of psychomotor therapy:

Psychomotor and Relaxation Therapy is a profession working with the promotion of psychophysical integration and prevention of muscle and skeletal suffering caused by physiological and psychological stress, trauma and overwork.
The profession is both therapeutic and pedagogical in the fields of rehabilitation and education and its main purpose is re-activating self-regulation and body-balance through relaxation, body-awareness, and quality in movement.

Main fields of employment:

Psychomotor therapists work with children, young people, adults and elderly people, as well as people of all ages with psychological and physiological handicaps. Main fields of employment: Public and private institutions, private practices and as consultants, in general adult education, in rehabilitation centres, in folk high schools, in day-care centres, nursing homes, in psychiatry, in industrial health service, etc.

Associations:

The Danish Organisation, DAP, has over 1000 members. In 1997 DAP concluded an agreement with public employers and has had an agreement with The Danish Association of Physiotherapists since 1993.

Educations:

The education in psychomotor and relaxation therapy in Denmark is a full-time education consisting of 3000 hours of education. The main subjects are anatomy, physiology, psychology and educational theory, as well as psychomotor therapy - relaxation and movement methods and theories for individuals and groups.
